By contrast to the crucifixion depictions that Bronzino painted this image of Jesus is more stark, the skin of the dead Jesus is grey and lifeless, the hole from the soldiers spear is clearly visible in the bodies side. The sorrow is clear on Marys face she is the lady dressed in the headcovering, the other figure is likely to be Mary of Magdalene.
