Asmodea means fantasic vision in English. This work is part of a series of works by Goya in which he explores his fears of insanity and his thoughts about humanity.
In this painting a man and a woman float above an army, the man is pointing to a city on a hill as if this is where the army is heading or laying siege to, the woman looks as though she is afraid of what is too come. She is cowering behind the man covering her face could she be an allegory for the city afraid for its very survival from the horrors to come.
