In this photo you can clearly see that the sitter is in the first stages of an illness, unlike earlier paintings of Elenora looks thin and drawn. The artist has captured her frailty and pain in the look on her face and yet it is painted with sympathy and pathos. In fact she only lived another 5 years after this painting was completed.
